Meghan Markle has made a vow during her tour of Nigeria that left royal fans seething. The Duchess of Sussex, along with her husband, Prince Harry, have travelled to the country in West Africa in an “unofficial royal tour.” Meghan has been front and centre of the trip, appearing on a talk show as well as attending multiple glitzy events with her partner by her side.

The ex-royal pair have even vowed to build a basketball court courtesy of their foundation, Archewell. The pair were ‘delighted’ to make the announcement which will see Giants of Africa construct the court and expand programming to young men and boys in Lagos. But appearing on TalkTV, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield revealed not everyone was keen on the plans. “Every time Meghan Markle opens her mouth she wants to remind us that she’s a feminist,” Schofield said.

“Aside from the poverty that Nigeria’s dealing with, there are severe cases of violence against women and girls which I think is a very big concern.” Schofield added there were more pressing issues Meghan could be focusing on that would directly impact women and girls from impoverished communities. “A basketball court? Meghan Markle, you’re supposed to be this feminist and the queen of the world,” she continued. “They’re just total virtue signal… all they do is virtue signal. When are they going to actually… what is a basketball court going to do?”

And fans were quick to chime in with their own thoughts. One said: “The two most selfish people they haven’t gone to Africa to help make the country better place for women and children.they are there to make themselves look good and try to promote themselves.” Meanwhile another disagreed. “It’s strange how Harry and Meghan getting on with their lives can cause such jealousy and bitterness,” they wrote. “What has this royal expert done for Nigeria?” a third chimed in. Meghan recently revealed she had learned she was 43% Nigerian. Sharing the stage with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, at a summit, Meghan said she was “flattered and honoured” to be in the country after learning the news.

Meghan said: “I am just flattered and honoured and inspired. It has been a whirlwind 24 hours since we arrived, and I very quickly got the memo that I need to wear more colour, so I can fit in with all of you and your incredible fashion!

“I am very overwhelmed. So I want to start by saying thank you very much for just how gracious you’ve all been in welcoming my husband and I to this country.”
