Meghan Markle Couldn’t Adapt to Palace Life Because She Wanted 2 Things the Royal Family Refused to Give Her
Here's what a commentator says the Duchess of Sussex wanted when she was a working royal and decided to leave when she didn't get it.
Less than two years after tying the knot in a storybook wedding at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a decision that would change their lives when they decided to step down from their royal duties.
The duke and duchess moved to America and publicly discussed their experience as working royals. Meghan, who was not brought up in the royal world like her husband, explained in her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey that she had a particularly tough time adjusting to life as a working member of Britain’s most famous family. A commentator believes that’s very true and says it’s because Meghan wanted two things that the royals wouldn’t give her.
The 2 things Meghan wanted that the royal family did not give her
Former longtime BBC correspondent and one of the late Princess Diana’s confidants, Jennie Bond, recently spoke to OK! magazine about what Meghan wanted that she couldn’t get as a working member of the royal family. According to Bond, after she married Harry the former Suits star wanted to maintain complete control over her life and have a coveted spot in the limelight. However, in the royal family, the monarch commands the brightest spotlight and has the most control.
“I have always held the view that Meghan failed to understand that she would never be the top dog in the royal family … or even the deputy top dog,” Bond told the publication. “There’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to be in complete control and charge of your life. There’s nothing wrong with seeking the limelight. It’s just that the royal family was the wrong vehicle for her ambitions.”
The duchess may not ‘crave a superstar profile’ but ‘enjoys being in control’
Bond also opined that she doesn’t think the Duchess of Sussex necessarily “craves a superstar profile” but enjoys being in control of every detail of her life and her work. “I’m not sure she craves a superstar profile,” Bond said. “In fact, she’s been quite low-key in recent times, presumably enjoying her family life in California, but she has projects in the pipeline with her website and I’m sure she will enjoy being in control of every detail. She is an independent woman with strong views and she is perfectly entitled to deploy her skills in any way she wants.”
Some of Meghan’s projects include producing two upcoming Netflix shows. One is a documentary Prince Harry will be featured in about the sport of polo and the other is a cooking and gardening show curated by Meghan. According to the description, that program “celebrates the joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining, and friendship.” The series is directed by Michael Steed with Meghan and Chanel Pysnik serving as executive producers alongside showrunner Leah Hariton.
