Prince William ‘absolutely not’ planning to bring Beatrice and Zara into royal rota for This Known Reason
Prince William was joined by his cousins this week as he hosted his first royal garden party of the summer season at Buckingham Palace.
Prince William has “absolutely” no intention to have cousins Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall join the family business as working royals, a royal expert has said. The trio this week joined the Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace in a show of support as he hosted his first garden party of 2024.
The appearance of the two Princesses of York and Princess Anne’s daughter sparked speculation on whether more royal work could be on the cards for them in the future. But GB News royal editor Cameron Walker said sources close to the Palace had “categorically” denied William is planning to ask the non-working royals to step up into helping carry out official engagements. Walker said: “I asked the question to somebody close to William, ‘is this situation where Prince William could call upon this younger generation of royals to carry out more public duties in the future?’
“Because we’ve got a very ageing working population of royals at the moment. “The Duke of Kent, Princess Alexandra are in their 80s, approaching 90, and the Duke of Gloucester turns 80 this year. “Are we going to see that? And I was kind of categorically told, ‘absolutely not.'” Speaking to The Royal Record, Walker noted Beatrice and Eugenie would routinely attend garden parties at the behest of their late grandmother, as would Zara and her husband Mike Tindall.
He added: “This is just Prince William inviting them to the garden party and it’s something that the late Queen did on a number of occasions.” As the King and Kate, the Princess of Wales were forced to reduce or entirely step back from their duties because of ill health, calls have been growing about involving younger non-working royals in the family business. But expert Rebecca English noted Beatrice and Eugenie are unlikely to be called upon to avoid causing further friction with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
English said: “Queen Elizabeth, and now King Charles, have made it very clear that their request for a half-in, half-out royal role is unworkable.
“They have to be consistent in this approach so if they’re saying no to Harry and Meghan they have to say no to Beatrice and Eugenie being more involved in the workings of the Royal Family because straight away you’d have the Sussexes saying, ‘well, if you’re going to do it for them, why won’t you do it for us?'”
