Harry’s explosive memoir became the UK’s best-selling book last year and according to the Bookseller and sold more than 700,000 copies. Royal author and expert Tom Quinn suggests the once-close siblings face several challenges. Speaking to the Mirror, he said: “The feud between Harry and William isn’t just down to the fact that their wives don’t get on. It also has a lot to do with their dysfunctional, strife-torn childhoods and Harry’s obsession with being an also-ran.”

Tom also explains following the late Princess Diana’s separation from the then Prince Charles in 1992, all the two knew was “being split”. He explained: “As children, they spent one weekend with their mother Diana going to McDonald’s and wearing baseball caps, and the following weekend with their father shooting pheasants and wearing tweed trousers.” He added: “Their parents were split, their lives were split, and being split is all they know. Harry has also always resented the fact that his mother Diana relied almost too much on William for advice and comfort Harry felt left out even back then.”

Tom also believes the two brothers have “very different wives”. He said: “Harry and William might have been able to patch up their own differences but they feel they have to back their wives so any attempts to patch things up become impossibly difficult.” In an prior interview with CBS’ 60 Minutes, Harry revealed that he’s not in communication with his father or brother. When probed about the last time they spoke, Harry admitted it’s been “a while.”

Harry last saw his father, King Charles, after he publicly disclosed he was undergoing treatment for cancer in February 2024. Prince Harry promptly boarded a flight to the UK after the announcement and the two met at Clarence House where King Charles was staying. Shortly following that visit, in Vancouver, Canada, Harry publicly spoke to Good Morning America about seeing his father. The Duke of Sussex was told via phonecall about the King’s illness before the news was made public, telling Mr Reeve: “I jumped on a plane and went to go see him as soon as I could.”

Harry did not comment further on his father’s cancer but suggested there was reason to be hopeful for a reconciliation, saying: “I’ve got other trips planned that will take me through the UK, or back to the UK, and so I’ll stop in and see my family as much as I can.”
